Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering

droplets, hydrophobic, water

Description

Fundamental research in solid and fluid mechanics as well as a variety of studies in materials, mechanical systems, and biomechanics are all included in the field of materials science and mechanical engineering. The mechanics of material structures, geophysical and biological systems involved in phenomena like flexibility, compressibility, buckling, rupture, and wave motion, the self-organizing behavior of living systems, biomedical instrumentation, teleoperated robots, and intelligent sensors are all areas of research being pursued by materials scientists and mechanical engineers at Maryland.
